Accident leaves seven injured, one dead near Boone County

A tragic car accident on Oct. 20 left many Missouri residents wondering: What was this driver thinking? As a result of the incident, the 37-year-old driver has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault. The Audrain County, Missouri, prosecutor filed charges on Oct. 24 stemming from the Oct. 20 car accident.

Online court documents state that the man is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, six counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of assault in the third degree and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was also charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner. His bond was set at $120,000.

The incident occurred when the man lost control of the pickup truck he was driving. The vehicle went off County Road 435 and hit a mailbox before rolling several times. There were 10 people in the truck bed, one of whom was a minor. A 20-year-old man riding in the back of the truck later died of his injuries at a Columbia, Missouri, hospital. The driver's 11-year-old daughter was riding with him in the cab of the truck.

According to police, seven people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities had to employ four helicopters and five ambulances during their response. Members of the Missouri Highway Patrol Major Crash Investigation Unit were called out to determine what happened.

When tragedies such as this happen, many families may be involved. Each of them will undoubtedly want to know what happened and if driver negligence played a part in this horrible truck accident. Missouri residents who may face similar types of incidents may wish to consider discussing their situation with an experienced personal injury attorney who may be able to offer solid advice as to the best course of action.
