Driver charged for Missouri car accident that claimed 2 lives

Unfortunately, far too many families in Columbia and across the state of Missouri know firsthand the devastation that a serious car accident can cause. The death of a family member is difficult to bear, but when that death comes suddenly and at the hands of another person, it makes the situation much worse.

A fatal car accident in Kansas City early on the morning of Jan. 19 is a recent example of the tragic consequences of negligence. The news reports indicate that a vehicle was fleeing police near the state line. When the car passed into Missouri at about 2:15 a.m., it apparently came very near to striking a patrol car. Although Kansas authorities gave up the chase at the state line, the Kansas City officer whose car was almost hit took up the pursuit in Missouri. It did not take long before the car ran a red light and crashed into a city water truck.

Sadly, one of the vehicle's passengers died that morning, and it has now been reported that a second passenger in the car died as well. The driver, as well as the water truck operator, received only minor injuries. The reason the Honda driver attempted to flee from police in such a reckless manner is not known.

While nothing can restore the lives lost, a full car accident investigation may help provide answers for family and loved ones as they assess their legal rights and options. In this case, the man responsible for the crash is being held accountable by law enforcement, but it is important for the families of the two victims to know that they may be justified in taking legal action as well. Seeking compensation for a wrongful death can help cover medical and funeral costs, and allow family and friends to focus on comforting one another in their time of grief.
