Car accident leaves two hospitalized

A car accident can happen suddenly and without warning. However, in that short amount of time, a great deal of damage can be done.

A recent two-vehicle accident on a bridge crossing the Missouri River near Chesterfield Valley sent two people to the hospital and blocked traffic for several hours. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by a couple from Grover crashed into the back of another vehicle that was stopped after it struck a large object in the middle of the road. The car accident caused the bridge to be closed for over two hours.

At the time of the accident, it was unknown what the object was that caused the vehicle to suddenly stop. However, it was apparent from the damage to the vehicles that the couple had little time to react to the sudden change in traffic flow and, as a result, sustained injuries and significant damage to their vehicle.

The exact nature and extent of the injuries to the couple is unknown. Preliminary reports indicated that that 51-year-old driver of the first car was unhurt.

In cases involving rear-end collisions in Missouri, it is common for negligence to fall on the driver of the vehicle that hits someone from behind. However, in some cases, there are more factors to consider than just the order of traffic. A rear-end car accident can be caused by debris in the road, the sudden presence of a pedestrian who enters the roadway without warning or indeed other factors that may cause a shift in liability to a third party.
