Car wrecks caused by inattention on the rise in Missouri

Although it is too early to tell exactly what caused a recent fatal accident, there have been many fatal car accidents along Missouri roads in 2012. The most recent accident occurred when the driver of a motor vehicle allegedly traveled into the opposite lane and struck another vehicle head on. Whether the crash was yet another of the car wrecks caused by inattention that plague our roadways remain to be seen.

According to the Missouri State Patrol, the southwest section of Missouri has seen 56 fatalities this year. This is, according to police, a 35 percent rise in fatal accidents from last year's numbers. No information was disclosed to define the leading causes of these accidents.

The most recently reported accident involved two vehicles. One, driven by a 55-year-old woman, is alleged to have pulled into the path of another woman, identified as being 21 years of age. The older woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the younger woman was transported to a local hospital. She was listed as being in serious condition.

Further investigation appears necessary to determine the specific cause of this fatal collision, though inattentive or distracted driving will likely be one focus of the police investigation. Car wrecks caused by inattention are an all too common occurrence in Missouri, as one moment of distraction while driving can have disastrous consequences. When all of the details have been released for this deadly accident, the seriously injured victim may have the legal basis to pursue a personal injury claim against the estate of the deceased woman, should the preliminary information provided by the authorities prove accurate
