Missouri car accident results in a fatality

Understandably, intersections are a common spot for collisions. When someone runs a red light, there is a considerable increase in the likelihood of a car accident occurring. A recent Missouri car accident occurred at an intersection after one driver reportedly ran a red light and ended with the death of one of the drivers.

The accident occurred on Christmas at a downtown St Louis intersection. A 17-year-old driver ran through a red light, according to one report. As the car ran the light, it collided with a vehicle that was driven by a 22-year-old woman. The vehicle that was hit then hit the curb and flipped over. There were passengers in both vehicles.

After the accident, the driver of the car that ran the light and the passenger in that vehicle both fled from the scene of the crash. The driver and passenger in the vehicle that was hit were both taken to a medical facility. The driver was pronounced dead from the injuries she suffered. There is an ongoing investigation regarding the car accident.

It appears likely that criminal charges will be pursued against the driver who is believed to have caused the accident and then apparently fled the scene of the crash. Regardless, the surviving family of the deceased victim has a separate right to commence and litigate a wrongful death lawsuit against the accused woman and anyone else who may have owned the car she was driving. Any conviction gained in criminal court may be offered in a related civil claim on the issue of financial liability for the fatal car accident. If liability is established in civil court, claims for specific items of monetary damages will be adjudicated and may result in a judgment entered against the defendant/s.
