Car accident injures Missouri motorcycle rider

A 17-year-old motorcycle rider was recently involved in a serious chain-reaction car accident in Missouri. His case shows how life-changing car accidents can happen in the blink of an eye and leave many lives altered in their wake.

The accident occurred on Missouri Route 13 near Lee's Summit. The motorcyclist was headed northbound when he clipped a car he was trying to pass. That forced him into the southbound lane, where he collided with the front end of a third vehicle. Witnesses to the accident report that the motorcyclist tried to avoid the collision but could not. The young man was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in a roadside ditch. A witness stayed by his side and made attempts to comfort him as they waited for medical crews to respond. She told reporters the young man kept requesting that she pray for him out loud.

Another witness reported that the chain of events that led to the accident seemed to begin when a car that was in the front of a cluster of vehicles slowed to make a turn. The driver of the car the motorcyclist struck was later cited for drunken driving. It is currently unclear whether alcohol played a significant role in the crash.

The young man was hospitalized after the accident and his condition is still unknown.

Everyone has a responsibility to drive safely and a great many drivers do. But it is just a sad fact that not every accident can be prevented. If you are hurt in an accident, a personal injury attorney may be able to examine the facts of the incident and tell you whether you could receive reparation from the responsible party.
