Woman injured in car accident with Missouri police officer

Police officers are sworn to serve and protect. Unfortunately, upholding the law can also present a danger to the civilian population. A Kansas City, Missouri woman was injured in a car accident with a police officer who was in active pursuit of another vehicle.

Those who witnessed the collision reportedly saw the police officers in pursuit of a Chevy pickup truck on 38th Street. As the chase ensued, the officer's patrol car, lights and sirens activated, approached the stop sign while traveling down a hill towards the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and 38th Street.

The female driver of the other vehicle proceeded to come through the intersection and was struck by the patrol car. The driver of the truck, who was still about a block ahead of the officer, left the scene. Upon impact, the woman's vehicle traveled approximately an additional 150 to 200 feet down 38th Street.

Witnesses state that the female victim of the car accident appeared stunned, but suffered only non-life-threatening injuries. One of the police officers suffered a laceration to his arm. Both of the injured were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.

The truck being pursued by the officers was not involved in the vehicle collision. It was found later abandoned on the road. The driver of the vehicle was said to be driving recklessly and had run a stop sign prior to the police chase.

Regardless of accident circumstances, victims may still need to recoup lost wages, pay for medical bills, and conduct vehicular repairs. The woman, and others involved in similar accidents, may benefit from advice from legal professionals to gain knowledge of personal injury laws as they pertain to car accidents.
