Alleged drunk driver flips car over in Columbia

Accidents that result from the poor decisions of another road user can cost lives, both here in Columbia and throughout the country. The consequences of an error in judgment like this can be life-changing, not only for the driver making the mistake, but for anyone injured as a result of it. Drunk driving is a prime example. People injured by the negligence of a drunk driver are often entitled to be compensated for their injuries and their pain and suffering.

On July 20, a Columbia man suspected of driving while intoxicated flipped his car over, east of Ashland on Route Y. When his 2010 Isuzu wandered off the right side of the road, the driver steered back onto Route Y. However, he overcompensated. The man again tried to correct himself, and in doing so, flipped the car into a roadside ditch.

The driver was taken to University Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and subsequently released. Thankfully, in this instance, no one else was injured. The driver will still have to answer to criminal charges of DWI and imprudent driving resulting in an accident. He may also be responsible for any property damage caused by the accident.

Suffering an injury caused by a drunk driver is devastating. It can significantly alter the course one one's life and potentially lead to serious injury. Victims may be able to seek compensation for their injuries, if another driver is found to be at fault. Often, people find the legal process intimidating and confusing, but a local attorney experienced in personal injury law may be able to offer assistance.
