Two-vehicle crash causes serious injury to Columbia student

Distracted driving is the cause of many accidents in Columbia. When two vehicles are involved, it is not always immediately clear whether one or both drivers are at fault. When an accident leaves a passenger seriously injured, the first concern is for the victim.

All effort is geared towards getting the injured person safely out of the vehicle and quickly on the way to the nearest hospital. Whatever the injuries and whether caused by distracted driving or something else, the hope is the person will fully recover.

On one recent morning, two students were reportedly driving to school together when their SUV was struck by a dump truck at the intersection of Old Plank Road and Route K in Columbia. Both drivers were able to extract themselves from their vehicles, and neither was seriously injured, according to the Columbia Missourian.

The female passenger, however, was apparently stuck inside the SUV for about an hour, until firefighters used the "jaws of life" to free her. She was seriously injured and taken to University Hospital, where her condition was unknown.

Further details of the two-vehicle crash were not immediately available. Anytime a passenger is seriously injured in an accident caused by the negligence of one or more drivers, he or she may entitled to monetary damages for the injuries and any pain and suffering.

A qualified attorney who is dedicated to helping victims of car accidents due to distracted driving or other negligence may offer some support and assistance in recovering what is justly due.
