Car accident results in hospitalization of two

The Missouri Department of Transportation is currently replacing numerous crossover intersections that have J-turns, in hopes that it will reduce the number of T-bone collisions in the area. One such car accident occurred on the morning of Sept. 29, when a car attempting to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 63 just south of Columbia was T-boned by another vehicle. According to police, the driver who was attempting to cross the street pulled out in front of the approaching car.

Although the drivers were reportedly conscious upon the arrival of rescue crews, they both ended up hospitalized following the accident. The 34-year-old driver of the vehicle that was attempting to cross the street in front of oncoming traffic was thrown some 50 feet from her car as a result of the collision. She was found in a ditch, while the 52-year-old driver of the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries. She was listed in good condition as of later that day, while the 34-year-old woman was listed in fair condition.

It's unknown whether or not a citation was issued, or if charges are pending against either party. If investigations reveal that negligence on the part of either driver contributed to the accident, the other involved party could have grounds for a personal injury case.

If a suit is filed, a Columbia attorney who has experience handling personal injury claims arising from serious car accidents could provide valuable advice and guidance throughout the process. When someone is injured in a car accident due to no fault of their own, Missouri law provides for their right to seek monetary damages for their injuries.
