School bus involved in car accident, two hurt

Boone residents may be shocked to hear of an accident in Fulton, Missouri, involving a school bus that was carrying 20 kids and a SUV. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in the car accident, but the SUV driver and a 5-year-old boy had to be rushed to an area hospital. The remaining students did not have injuries serious enough to warrant hospital attention, but parents were nonetheless taking them to doctors just in case.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 in the westbound lanes of Highway 54. Reportedly, the 54-year-old school bus driver was attempting to cross the divided highway on County Road 210 when the bus collided with a Kia Sorento driven by a 48-year-old woman. According to police, the 48-year-old woman had the right of way, and the bus driver caused the accident when she failed to yield.

The Kia driver received moderate injuries, and she is expected to make a full recovery. The 5-year-old boy who was injured in the accident had suffered a bump on the head. Both may be entitled to compensation for their injuries.

Parents should not have to fear for their children's safety when they put them on a school bus each morning. School bus drivers need to be just as, if not more, cautious of their surroundings when driving. When victims are injured in a car accident through no fault of their own, they may be entitled to monetary damages for the medical expenses they have incurred, along with compensation for their pain and suffering. In cases like the bus accident, victims may benefit from consulting with a personal injury attorney, who may be able to help with determining who is ultimately at fault.
