Tractor-trailer accident leaves three dead in Missouri

There are times when fatal accidents occur that leave Missouri residents wondering: What could have possibly caused this tragedy? In mid-November, such an accident occurred that took the lives of three people. The accident serves as an important reminder that all drivers on the road need to be vigilant about their surroundings, because they have a responsibility to not put anyone else's life at risk.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the fatal truck accident took place at about 9:30 p.m. on westbound Interstate 70 at exit 87. Troopers report that as a 50-year-old woman from Independence, Missouri, was slowing down, her vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer. The woman's car then went up in flames. Also inside the car were her husband and mother-in-law; all three were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

The truck was being driven by a 30-year-old man. He was not injured and no charges were filed at the time. However, the fatal accident is still under investigation.

It is not known if there were any dangerous road conditions that may have contributed to the accident. What is known is that three people, all in the same family, are dead because of the incident. No doubt the remaining family members want to know what happened.

Columbia residents are no strangers to accidents, and with I-70 being heavily trafficked by tractor-trailers, there is an added element of danger. Many of these accidents occur for no good reason other than one driver is not paying attention or driving while distracted. While this may not be the cause behind this accident, distracted driving often leads to tragedy.
