Kirksville man killed in multi-car crash in Knox County

Drivers are faced with having to make split-second choices on roadways, especially in situations that could result in bodily harm or death. Oftentimes, an accident between two vehicles can spur on a chain reaction of accidents that could send multiple people to the hospital.

That was the case in a recent car accident in Knox County on Highway 11, at a location about two miles west of Route P. The evening accident on Tuesday caused the death of a 37-year-old Kirksville man, as well as injuries to several others.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 40-year-old driver from Hurdland, Missouri was heading eastbound and about to turn left into a driveway. As the driver turned, a Ford vehicle driven by the man who died in the crash hit the back of the driver's car. The 37-year-old's car was forced across the road where it hit another Ford head-on driven by a 54-year-old Memphis man. That man was taken to a hospital by helicopter with moderate injuries. The man who was rear-ended did not sustain any injuries, according to the report.

Finally, a 26-year-old man driving a Pontiac drove into the side of the victim's car. Police say that man, who was from Brashear, Missouri, sustained minor injuries and medical professionals treated him at the scene.

According to a report, the deceased victim was wearing his seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m.

In an accident involving multiple cars, it is hard to initially pinpoint who was at fault and what exactly caused the accident. If an investigation finds any of the parties at fault, those injured may choose to file a personal injury claim against those responsible or any person who may have acted negligently.
