Car accidents seriously injure Eldon man on Highway 63

A 45-year-old Eldon man is fighting for his life at University Hospital in Columbia after a tragic car accident on Feb. 6 in which he was struck twice while trying to cross Highway 63 in Ashland, Missouri.

The man had been following his friend's trailer in his pickup truck when another vehicle in front of the trailer applied its brakes suddenly. The trailer veered into the left lane, causing the Eldon man's pickup to collide with the median. The trailer stopped on the side of the road, and the victim later tried to cross back across the highway to reach his pickup when he was struck by another vehicle. As he lay on the road, another car accident occurred when a second vehicle ran over both his legs.

He remained in critical condition in a hospital in Columbia the following day. The car accident occurred at about 6 p.m.

While the first concern is obviously for the full recovery of the victim, he and his family will likely want to know exactly what caused the fateful incident. In the aftermath of a serious accident it is often difficult to know all of the details. The police undoubtedly are continuing their investigation with the goal of determining how the car accident occurred and who, if anyone, was responsible. If the man's injuries were caused by the negligence of one or more parties, the victim may have the legal basis to pursue a personal injury claim for monetary damages resulting from the tragic collision.
