Putnam County car accident: 2 parents dead, 4 children injured

Regrettably, motor vehicle accidents occur all over the state of Missouri. While we can take steps to reduce their occurrence, it is seemingly impossible to avoid them altogether. Whether in Columbia or another part of the state, lives can end in a moment of time and others may change forever. On the afternoon of March 16 up in Putnam County, four children were seriously injured and also left without a parent after a car accident in which all six occupants were not restrained by seat belts.

Fiery Stone County car accident severely injures 3

A fiery one-vehicle accident in Stone County has sent three Reeds Spring residents to the hospital, where they were each said to be fighting for their lives. The Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed that rescue crews were called to the scene of the car accident a bit before 4 p.m. on March 18.

Lawsuit for brain injuries caused by dangerous chemicals settled

Eighteen families working on an undisclosed number of Missouri farms northwest of Columbia have settled a lawsuit against Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. for $10 million. The lawsuit covers a time period that spanned from 1983 until the early part of 2009. The claims alleged that victims suffered brain injuries and other problems from the use of a dangerous chemical, hexavalent chromium, as a fertilizer on farms located in Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb and Andrew counties. The engineering company admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement, but for a portion of the time covered by the lawsuit, it acted as a consultant to the tannery that provided the objectionable chemical.

Monroe County car accident victim, 17, seriously injured

Unfortunately, not everyone heeds to police warnings. Sometimes this doesn't cause trouble to anyone other than the person disobeying authority. However, when some attempts to elude police by speeding away, others can be put in harm's way. One such incident, a car accident in Monroe County, sent a 17-year-old victim to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries on Feb. 24.

Horrific car accident kills innocent woman in Kansas City

Every so often, a car accident case defies explanation. Missouri's negligence laws address circumstances where errors in judgment cause injury. Most people involved in a car accident don't plan for it to happen. Sometimes collisions are the result of a moment's distraction or even impatience. Occasionally, someone's conduct is considered so egregious that the law considers it reckless, which may have been the case in a recent accident.
