Missouri man sustains multiple injuries in car accident

Traffic typically flows well on Interstates, but if an accident occurs or there is more traffic on the Interstate than usual, there is often a backup. Drivers must always pay attention on the roads so they have time to slow down or stop if the traffic slows or comes to a standstill. Unfortunately, a Missouri driver who was stuck in traffic on Interstate 55 because of a crash got involved in a car accident himself.

The accident occurred in the morning as a northbound Toyota Tacoma was slowing down at mile marker 91 due to traffic backup from a wreck at mile marker 93. The Tacoma was struck from behind by a Nissan Altima. The impact forced the Tacoma to run off the road and roll over several times. The Altima went airborne, clearing the median and landing in a southbound lane.

The driver of the Tacoma was ejected from his vehicle onto a grass strip in the median. He was transported to the hospital with broken ribs, a broken arm and numerous cuts. The driver of the Altima was not injured. Local police issued the Altima driver a citation for failing to drive with care.

As the victim recovers from his injuries, he may have medical expenses resulting from the car accident, in addition to lost income if his injuries keep him from working. He may decide to pursue a personal injury claim in an attempt to obtain compensation for his financial losses and other damages. In Missouri, a personal injury claim is more likely to be litigated successfully if there is evidence that the accident was caused by carelessness or negligence. A successful suit may help alleviate an accident victim's financial burdens, allowing him or her to focus fully on recovery.
