Wrongful death? Missouri couple killed in crash with semi

Most of the time, passenger vehicles and semi-trucks share the road safely. However, if a crash occurs involving a car and a semi, the results can be catastrophic. A family is now left to mourn the loss of a Missouri couple who died after their SUV collided head-on with a tractor-trailer. Though several factors may have contributed to this accident, the victims' family may have grounds for a wrongful death suit if there is any evidence of negligence.

The catastrophic accident occurred in Pike County when the semi driver crossed the center line and into the westbound lanes of U.S. 54 to avoid a collision with a different vehicle. He struck a Ford Explorer carrying the couple. The husband, who was driving the Explorer, had attempted to avoid the crash by driving off the side of the road, but the right front of the semi struck the left front of the Explorer.

The couple was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner. The semi driver was taken by medical flight to a regional hospital. He suffered moderate injuries.

While it seems that the accident occurred because the semi was trying to avoid a wreck with a different vehicle, there may be more to the story. As the victims' loved ones try to cope with this tragedy, they likely face funeral and burial expenses as well as other financial losses resulting from the crash. In Missouri, they may successfully pursue a wrongful death claim if there is proof that a negligent act led to the accident. Any compensation they receive can offer financial relief, but more importantly, it may give them closure and a sense of justice as they try to move on.
