Pedestrian loses his life in Missouri car accident

It is rarely easy for family members to deal with losing a loved one unexpectedly, no matter the age of the person who passes away. Pedestrian accidents that prove to be fatal often leave behind such grieving family members. The family of a 74-year-old Missouri man who lost his life in this type of car accident will now be left behind to mourn his untimely death.

The pedestrian accident occurred as the man was walking near a parking garage at the Mercy Hospital Surgery Center in Creve Coeur, Missouri. According to authorities, the man was attempting to cross the street in front of a hospital entrance at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle which hit the man was in the process of pulling out of the nearby parking garage.

Initial reports do not indicate a potential reason for the driver to have struck the pedestrian. Unfortunately, though, the man did succumb to the injuries that he suffered in the collision. Creve Coeur police are reportedly still investigating the cause of the accident, although the driver was allowed to leave the scene after speaking with investigators.

While there is not yet any way to tell whether the driver will face criminal charges related to this car accident, civil penalties could be a possibility. When fatalities occur in pedestrian accidents like this one, personal injury laws allow surviving relatives to file wrongful death lawsuits in certain situations. This requires a demonstration of negligence on the part of the driver believed to be responsible for causing the death. Succeeding in such a civil suit can allow family members to recover some of the financial costs associated with the unexpected death of a loved one.
