Missouri man faces charges for deadly car accident

One stretch of road seems to be the site of a great number of accidents, so much so that a recent incident appears to echo the end result of another deadly crash years before. The stretch of Missouri roadway has claimed the life of a number of people who have used for a thrill ride referred to as hilltopping. Most recently a passenger in a car accident died and another was paralyzed as the driver lost control on the road.

The road has reportedly been a site for hilltopping because it is a long stretch with deep hills. The speeding over the hills sends cars air born, as was the case in this particular accident. The 20-year-old driver lost control and the car flipped several times.

The driver now faces criminal charges of involuntary manslaughter due to the death of one of the passengers. The speed limit on this particular stretch of road is 30 mph and the car was reportedly going at least 60 mph. Reports indicate this is the 15th death on that particular stretch of road.

While the criminal charges may mean a number of possible penalties for the driver in this case, the family of one victim has lost a loved one and another person is paralyzed because of the car accident. The family of the passenger who died and the paralyzed passenger may be able to seek damages in a Missouri civil court. If damages are awarded, the monetary settlement may help those affected deal with funeral costs, medical bills or the cost of long-term medical care.
