Missouri pedestrian died after car accident

Walking down a roadway or highway can be a dangerous activity any time of day. However, when it is nighttime, it can be even more dangerous for pedestrians to walk alongside the road. For one Missouri man, walking along the road led to his death after he was involved in a car accident.

The 51-year-old was headed south along the road when he was hit by a car. Police authorities report that the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The coroner took him from the scene. He was hit by an 18-year-old driving a Ford Mustang also going south.

It is unclear what the specific nature of the pedestrian's injuries were. It is also unknown why exactly the driver was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. Reports do not indicate any pending criminal charges against the driver as of yet.

In a case where a driver has hit a pedestrian and that pedestrian has died as a result, there may be an investigation into the car accident to determine exactly what happened regarding the car accident. Even if criminal charges are not filed against a driver who has hit someone, an injured pedestrian or the family of a deceased victim may be able to pursue a claim of negligence or wrongful death against the driver and any separate owner of the vehicle involved. In a Missouri civil court, families or victims may be entitled to monetary damages, when negligence is proven, that may be beneficial when they have to deal with the financial repercussions of a car accident.
