Missouri train collision leads to car accident on overpass

Any time there is an incident involving trains colliding on the tracks, there may potentially be serious injuries and damage to anything in the way. Recently, a collision of two freight trains in Missouri ultimately led to a car accident on the overpass above. The freight trains collided underneath and caused a chain reaction.

One freight train T-boned the other train, causing one of them to derail from the tracks. The connected cars then hit a pillar that supported the overpass above them. The crash caused part of the overpass to collapse.

While there were no vehicles on the overpass when the collapse occurred, oncoming drivers could not see that the overpass had indeed collapsed due to the darkness. One driver, a 22-year-old male, had his car go airborne as he came upon the scene. He and his 19-year-old wife suffered injuries. In all, five people were injured in cars, and two people were injured in the trains.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board are trying to uncover exactly what led to the accident. Those injured in the car accident that occurred as a result of the collapse may have to deal with medical bills, lost wages, physical therapy and other damages. Depending on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, they may have cause to file a civil suit in a Missouri civil court, and if successful, they may be entitled to monetary damages that can help them recoup some of the expenses they sustained as a result of the car accident.
