Missouri car accident could open door to wrongful death suit

Coming to and crossing intersections in a vehicle can be a vulnerable position for any motorist to be in, at any time of day. One Missouri car accident that happened recently in the middle of an intersection has left one elderly woman dead. The crash may open the door to a possible wrongful death civil suit against the driver who hit the woman's vehicle.

The car accident happened in the middle of the afternoon in the intersection. A 101-year-old woman was crossing an intersection in a Lincoln Town Car. As she was making her way across, she was hit by a Nissan Maxima that entered the intersection. That vehicle was driven by an 18-year-old, who then hit a utility pole before coming to a stop.

The elderly woman was rushed to a medical facility but died of her injuries. The 18-year-old driver was not injured in the crash. There is currently an investigation into the accident, but there was no mention of criminal charges as of yet.

If the investigation into this crash was to uncover a criminal aspect, the driver could face charges. However, despite the outcome of any investigation or charges, the driver could face a civil suit by the family of the woman who died. Anytime a loved one is lost in this manner in Missouri, a wrongful death suit may be pursued. If successful, the family pursuing the suit may be awarded monetary damages that could help them deal with medical bills or funeral costs incurred because of the car accident.
