Grandfather dies in car accident on Missouri Highway

Whenever someone has car problems, it is not unusual to have to stop along the shoulder of the road and either fix the problem or wait for help. If a car is sitting along the road with its emergency lights flashing, this is most often a safe way to wait for help. However, a recent car accident in Missouri highlights that even taking these steps isn't always a safe endeavor for those who are awaiting help or need to fix a vehicle.

A man was having trouble with his car as it kept overheating. His grandfather decided to follow him on the highway while he test drove the vehicle to see if the problem was fixed. As the vehicle overheated again, the pair pulled over and both waited in the grandfather's car as the engine cooled down. As they waited, an SUV came along from behind and hit the car the two were in.

A nurse passing by stopped to render aid to the grandfather after the crash. Unfortunately, however, the grandfather died from the injuries he sustained in the accident. The grandson suffered more minor injuries, but he and his family have been devastated by the loss of his grandfather. The driver of the SUV that hit them was arrested for suspicion of driving while being impaired.

While the driver of the SUV may face criminal charges for the deadly car accident, the family of the grandfather may have further legal options. They may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim in a Missouri civil court. A successful wrongful death claim may garner a monetary settlement that could help the family deal with unexpected financial ramifications of their loved one's death.
