Car crashes in Missouri and leaves a driver dead

When one car attempts to pass another, the risk of an accident may be increased. When one car heads into another lane to make that maneuver, hitting an oncoming car in that other lane can have catastrophic consequences. In fact, a recent Missouri accident occurred as one car was passing another, and the end result was yet another of the fatal car crashes that plague our roadways.

A 38-year-old driver was in the midst of passing a car that was operated by a 23-year-old man when he collided head on with an oncoming car. The oncoming car was driven by a 49-year-old man. The car responsible for the crash rolled over and landed on its roof. The car he hit ran off the road.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck head on died at the scene of the accident. A passenger in the car that apparently caused the crash, an 11-year-old girl, was injured and needed medical treatment. Though her relation to the driver was not reported, she shares his same last name. The driver was cited for suspicion of drunk driving, manslaughter and assault.

The man who authorities say caused this deadly accident may be facing harsh criminal penalties for his role in the incident if he is ultimately convicted of the serious charges filed against him. Regardless of what kind of consequences come about when car crashes result in criminal charges being filed, victims and families of victims have legal rights. The family of the man who died may choose to seek financial damages in a civil court in Missouri. Any damages awarded, based upon a showing of negligence, may help the family deal with the financial ramifications of the accident that took their loved one's life.
