Missouri car accident takes 3 lives

Whenever there is a car accident of any kind, there is a risk of injury to drivers and others and damage to vehicles. When that car accident involves more than two cars, the risks of injuries and damages can be compounded. A recent Missouri car accident involved three vehicles and also proved to be fatal.

The accident occurred as a 19-year-old woman was heading north in a car on a Missouri highway. For some reason, she crossed the centerline. She then hit the side of a car traveling in the opposite direction. After that, she struck another southbound car driven by a 49-year-old man.

The driver of that second vehicle died at the scene of the accident. The 19-year-old woman and a passenger in her vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, also died at the scene of the crash. The first person hit in the accident did not suffer any injuries.

It is unclear why the 19-year-old crossed the centerline to begin with, presumably causing the multi-vehicle car accident. Because she did not survive the crash, she can't be held criminally responsible for the accident. However, the families of the passenger and the other driver who died may still be able to pursue wrongful death lawsuits in a Missouri civil court against her estate and any separate owner of the vehicle she was operating. A successfully presented claim could result in an award of monetary damages against any party deemed to have negligently caused or contributed to the fatal accident. These damages could help the families of the victims contend with any medical bills, funeral costs and other financial losses associated with the car accident.
