Missouri car accident takes life of passenger

Whenever a person climbs into a vehicle as a passenger, they are literally putting their lives in the hands of the driver. Drivers accept a certain level of responsibility when transporting passengers and are required to exercise reasonable care concerning the passengers and others in or near the roadway. If a passenger dies as the result of a car accident caused by the negligence of the driver, a wrongful death claim for monetary damages in a Missouri civil court may be an appropriate course of action for the victim's surviving family.

Recently, two teens were near an intersection in a pickup truck at just about 11 p.m. For some reason that has yet to be determined, the 18-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, and it struck a tree. Both the driver and his 18-year-old passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The passenger died later at the hospital. The driver was admitted for further treatment of his injuries. An investigation to determine exactly what happened is ongoing. Neither the specific injuries suffered by the driver nor his medical condition was reported.

As authorities investigate this car accident, they may be able to pinpoint an exact cause for the pickup truck leaving the roadway. In car accidents where the evidence suggests that a driver acted negligently, the family of a fatal crash victim may elect to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. If financial liability is appropriately established, a Missouri court will consider specific claims for damage. This may result in a monetary judgment against a party found negligent in order to help the victim's family deal with the financial aftermath of these types of tragedies.
