Missouri car accident takes life of teen at bus stop

Car accidents are the number one cause of death for teenagers. However, teenagers can be the victim of a car accident without even being in a car at the time of the accident. A recent accident took the life of a Missouri teenager as he waited along the road for a bus.

The 15-year-old was on the road waiting for the school bus when he was struck by a car. Police said he died at the scene of the accident. The driver was a 23-year-old man who was said to be driving too fast for rainy road conditions when his car overturned and struck the teen.

The driver has been charged with DUI and also a charge of manslaughter. A 14-year-old passenger in the car was also hurt. Police believe there was street racing going on and indicate they may charge other drivers for their role in the fatal accident. One other driver has already been charged with speeding and involuntary manslaughter related to his role in the car crash.

While there is already word of criminal action being taken for the death of the young Missouri teen, the parents of the victim may also be able to seek damages through the civil court system. They may be able to pursue a wrongful death suit against the drivers charged in the car accident. If successful, a civil suit may garner damages that could help the family deal with funeral expenses and other expenses they have incurred due to the tragic car accident.
