Man charged in deadly Missouri car accident

Most people operate a motor vehicle with an abundance of caution and are mindful of the rules of the road. However, even when people are law-abiding, cautious and alert, a car accident can still occur due to the reckless or negligent actions of others on the roadway. Recently, a woman lost her life in Missouri when she was the victim of a car accident.

The accident occurred as a 24-year-old man lost control of his car. He ended up in the lanes of oncoming traffic. This led to a crash with a vehicle coming from the other direction. A 57-year-old woman in the car he hit died due to the injuries she suffered in the car accident.

The 24-year-old apparently  told authorities that he was under the influence of the drug K2 at the time of the accident. He said he blacked out after smoking the drug and that was when he lost control of the vehicle. A package of the drug was also found in the car. The driver was charged with involuntary manslaughter and also second-degree assault.

The criminal charges against the driver who appears to have caused the car accident may result in a wide range of penalties if a conviction is ultimately achieved. However, the family of the woman who died may also have cause to pursue further action against the driver. They are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit in a Missouri civil court. A successfully litigated claim can lead to a judgment awarding monetary damages that could help families with medical bills and funeral costs as they attempt to  move forward after the death of a loved one.
