Missouri woman dies in crash on Highway 22

A woman was killed in a three-vehicle collision near Mexico, Missouri, on July 18. The crash happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Highway 22, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities say the woman, a 20-year-old resident of Centralia, was driving a 2001 Lincoln Town Car west on Highway 22 when she crossed into the eastbound lane to pass another vehicle and encountered an oncoming 1998 GMC pickup truck. She attempted to veer back into the westbound lane, but her car turned to a 90 degree angle and was broadsided by the GMC. An eastbound 2009 Pontiac G6 then hit the GMC.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the GMC, a 28-year-old Centralia man, was airlifted to University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Pontiac, a 23-year-old Centralia man, suffered minor injuries. The Lincoln and GMC were totaled in the collision, and the Pontiac sustained major damage.

According to the MSHP, the accident was the sixth fatal crash in July and the 39th of the year in the department's Troop F district. Troop F encompasses 13 Central Missouri counties, including Boone, Callaway and Cole counties.

When an individual is injured in a car accident caused by another driver, they have the right to seek compensation through a civil personal injury lawsuit. With the help of an attorney, an injured victim could use police accident investigation reports, witness accounts and other evidence to prove that the at-fault driver is liable for their injuries. If the responsible driver was killed in the crash, a complaint may be filed against their estate and auto insurance company. A successful lawsuit could bring a financial settlement that covers medical expenses, loss of income and other damages.
