Man charged with domestic assault after UPS driver calls 911

A Missouri man was charged with several felonies after a UPS driver who visited his home on Dec. 6 called 911. According to reports, the accused man's wife handed the UPS driver a package that contained the words 'contact 911." The UPS driver then called the authorities shortly after leaving the couple's Union residence.

Court records indicate that the man is accused of beating his wife, threatening his wife with a gun and telling his wife that he was going to kill her. The alleged violence and threats of violence began the night before contact was made with the UPS driver. The man is accused of preventing his wife from using a phone or leaving the house for 15 hours.

After the UPS driver contacted authorities, the accused man was detained and booked on five felony charges that include a charge of domestic assault. The man was also handed one misdemeanor charge for child endangerment. The Franklin County sheriff's office expressed appreciation for the phone call that was made by the UPS driver. He was being held on a $100,000 bond. It is unclear as to whether there had been previous incidents of this type reported by the wife.

A person who has been charged for a domestic violence incident like this may want to have representation from a criminal defense attorney at court hearings. If the only two witnesses to the incident are the defendant and the alleged victim, an attorney may help the defendant to clearly communicate their version of the events. An attorney may also help the defendant to strengthen the case with character witnesses.
