Data from 2018 International Roadcheck now released

Truck, bus and other commercial vehicle drivers in Missouri may recall the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's International Roadcheck back in June. This three-day event consisted of random inspections at various levels to ensure both driver- and vehicle-related safety compliance. The CVSA has released the results of this Roadcheck and noted what the most common violations were.

Just over 67,500 roadside inspections were conducted in all, including 45,400 that were Level I inspections (the most comprehensive). Out of this, 11,897 vehicles were put out of service. Just over 21 percent of those trucks had undergone the Level I inspection. As for drivers, 2,664 were put out of service.

The top three vehicle-related out-of-service violations were issues with brake systems, brake adjustments and tire and wheel standards. Together, they made up 64 percent of the violations in that field. Among drivers, 43.7 percent were issued out-of-service orders for violating the hours-of-service regulations. HOS compliance was the focus of this year's Roadcheck.

Following HOS violations, 21.4 percent were put out of service for having the wrong class of license for the vehicle they were driving. Another 10.1 percent were found with false records of duty status. Overall, more inspections took place this year than during last year's Roadcheck. At the same time, there were fewer out-of-service orders issued.

Negligent driving or poor maintenance on the trucker's part will increase the chances of an accident. Someone who believes they have the grounds for a truck accident case will want a case evaluation from a lawyer. Legal counsel could then hire investigators to find all the proof against the trucker, including the police report, truck maintenance records and work log. All negotiations will be handled by the lawyer, and if the two sides cannot agree on a settlement, the lawyer could prepare for litigation.
